	The Party’s Central Committee issued Instruction No 36/CT-TW on “Strengthening Environment Protection Activities in the Period of Country's Industrialization and Modernization"
	The first National Environment Conference was held in Hanoi from 6-8 June, 1998
	The Fourth Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment was held in Hanoi

1999

The First ASEAN Environmental Forum was held in Hanoi from 20-24, September 1999.

2000

National Assembly endorsed the Criminal Code (revised) with a separate chapter on environmental criminals

2001

The First Indochina Environment Ministerial Meeting was held in May 2001

2002

Vietnamese Delegation led by Vice Premier Pham Gia Khiem attended WSSD Rio+10 in Johannesburg, South Africa

Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment was established; NEA has new name: Vietnam Environmental Protection Agency;

Vietnam Environmental Fund (VEF) was established

2003

National Strategy on Environmental Protection towards 2010, vision 2020 was enacted by the Government

The Government enacted the Decree No 109/2003/ND-CP dated 23 September 2003 on the conservation and development of wetlands

2004

Party’s Politburo issued Resolution No 41/NQ/TW dated 15 November 2004 on environmental protection in the process of modernization and industrialization;

The Eleventh ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Haze was held in Hanoi

The Second National Conference on Environment was held in Hanoi
